A FUTURE THAT WORKS: TUC National Rally for Young People

As part of the build up to the March for the Alternative, on January 29th, the TUC will be holding ‘A Future that Works: A TUC National rally for Young People’ at Platt Fields Park in Manchester (1pm to 3pm).

The rally is being run in partnership with the UCU and is also the only rally being held on this date that is supported by the National Union of Students.

The rally will highlight the unfair and disproportionate impact of the recession and the coalition government’s cuts programme on young people who face record levels of unemployment, restrictions on access to skills and education through the abolition of the EMA and the increase in tuition fees and reduced help in finding work due to the abolition of the Future Jobs Fund.

Amongst the speakers at the rally will be TUC Assistant General Secretary, Kay Carberry, Sally Hunt, General Secretary of the UCU, Len McCluskey, General Secretary elect of Unite, Matt Wrack, FBU General Secretary and Christine Blower, NUT General Secretary.  Also speaking will be Aaron Porter, President of the NUS and a representative of the British Youth Council.
